Reishi

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is also known as “Lingzhi” in China. This impressive ‘shroom is nicknamed the “mushroom of immortality” due to its colloquially reported benefits in restoring energy and vitality.

The stem is thick and the reddish-brown cap is smooth and shiny. Reishi mushrooms can range in diameter from a few inches to over a foot. They like growing in humid forests and are found on decaying hardwood trees like beech or oak.

Chaga

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) likes growing in colder regions like northern Europe. They have a slow growing cycle and are difficult to cultivate, so many chaga products are made from wild mushrooms.

These chaga mushrooms have a black exterior with a rough texture that looks like burnt wood. They grow on parts of trees that are hurt or dying. As they grow, chaga absorbs the nutrients from its tree host.

Maitake

Maitake (Grifola frondosa) is also known as “Hen of the Woods”. This mushroom has fan-shaped caps and can be grayish or dark brown.

They like humid forests and grow at the base of trees like oak and maple.

Oyster

Oyster mushrooms belong to the Pleurotus genus and are popular additions to food due to their delicious flavor and texture.

They have a fan-shaped cap and can range from white, gray, and brown. They typically grow in clusters and can be found in decaying wood or fallen trees.
